Backlight

See Backlight#Kernel command-line options to have the ACPI and backlight function properly. acpi_osi=Linux is another kernel parameter required for this.

Wireless

Video

The T550 is only able to drive three displays at once. If you are using a one-to-three DisplayPort adapter, you will need to disable the laptop display (xrandr --output eDP1 --off) in order to use three external displays. Expect a heavy delay (1-2 seconds) while adjusting displays via DisplayPort with xrandr.

SD card reader

USB

Enabling Always On USB in the UEFI BIOS makes the forward-most USB port on the right side of the laptop (i.e., the charging port) unusable in Linux. Disabling this feature in re-enables the port.

Function keys

The factual accuracy of this article or section is disputed.

Reason: The function keys likely work as specified in Lenovo ThinkPad T450(s)#Function keys. In other words, the function keys behave as function keys when Fn is pressed. This section probably needs rewording for more clarity. (The function key behaviour for the T550 is also described at [1].) (Discuss in Talk:Lenovo ThinkPad T550)

Function keys do not work without the FnLock on. To enable the FnLock, press Fn+Esc. The green light on the Fn key should turn on. Now you can use the Fn key like normal (i.e., with FnLock on Fn+F1 would equate to a XF86AudioMute to be handled by X/WM/whathaveyou).
